QuickBooks® 2011 Release 6 is Available Now

Article Post Date
March 21st 2011 by

QuickBooks® 2011 Release 6 (R6) is now available for download, and will be available via the automated patch service on Tuesday March 22. This update is the first release to take advantage of the Plus subscription functionality available in QuickBooks 2011 Pro Plus, QuickBooks 2011 Premier Plus and for accounting professionals enrolled in the ProAdvisor® Program.

We’ll highlight some of the biggest enhancements in this article, but you can always see a complete list of enhancements and release notes by clicking here. This link will also allow you to manually download and install the patch by selecting the appropriate product. Many of the improvements in this release are based on customer suggestions.

To help you support your clients appropriately, below is a chart that outlines what’s available with R6 for each product version:

For our Plus subscription and ProAdvisor customers, R6 has four key enhancements designed to help you save time in your workflow:

  1. Transaction Detail on History Pane – NEW!
  2. Improved Memorized Transactions[4] – IMPROVED!
  3. Batch Invoicing for Time and Expenses[5] – NEW!
  4. Integrated Help – IMPROVED!

Aside from the R6 release, your customers on Plus have access to the following functionality just for signing up with their subscription:

Transactions Detail  on History Pane – NEW!

We’ve added a right pane tab on the history window that shows transaction-specific information, including information on who created and edited the transaction, whether it was e-mailed, and any related transactions. In addition, you have the ability to create notes on supported transactions, which will help save you time when accessing the information.

Improved Memorized Transactions[4]

We heard lots of suggestions on how we could improve Memorized Transactions; as a result, we believe these changes will help you save time when entering the same transaction multiple times. We added a new window that displays a list of the memorized transactions that are due to be entered and lets you choose whether to enter them now or later:

We also improved the wording of the scheduling options to reduce confusion:

Batch Invoicing for Time and Expenses [5]– NEW!

This new feature, available only in QuickBooks 2011 Premier Plus and in ProAdvisor’s membership copy of QuickBooks 2011 Accountant Plus, will reduce the time needed to invoice multiple customers for billable time and expenses. We added this feature because you told us you were wasting time on repetitively invoicing multiple customers for billable time and expenses. The previous workflow only allowed a single invoice to be generated. With this new functionality, you can view billable transactions for multiple customers and view the billable amounts for time, expenses, mileage and purchased items.

Improved Integrated Help

Get the answers you need faster with improved Integrated Help.  Now Help pulls information from a variety of sources including the QuickBooks Support site and Community so you get answers to your questions more often on your first try.

Some Important Notes:

  1. If you cancel your ProAdvisor Program membership or do not renew your membership, access to the automatic updates that are part of QuickBooks Accountant Plus will terminate immediately. You will continue to be able to use the QuickBooks Accountant software, but will lose the enhancements included in previous updates and you will not receive enhancement updates going forward.
  2. LaunchPad functionality will be available for QuickBooks Pro Plus and Premier Plus, and QuickBooks Accountant Plus for ProAdvisors by mid-April.
  3. To be used for your company file.
  4. The release affects Windows’ desktop versions of 2011.
  5. Batch Invoice for Time and Expenses is only available in Premier Plus versions of QuickBooks.
